Auto drivers seek ‘reasonable’ tariff revision

CHENNAI: Autorickshaw drivers affiliated to the CITU-backed union in city are demanding that the Government revise the tariff to a “reasonable extent” as it would be the only way to ensure drivers flagged the meters.

American paedophile deported

Chennai, July 8 (IANS) A 60-year-old American paedophile, arrested in Tamil Nadu on May 22, has been deported to the United States, police said.Alan Jay Horowitz, who was arrested by the Kancheepuram district police in Mahabalipuram near Chennai, was deported after the Ministry of External Affairs issued the deportation orders.

Chennai on edge as alternative water source dries up

Veeranam lake in Cuddalore district, about 230 km north of Chennai, which augmented a good one third of the city's drinking water supply, has virtually gone dry. The daily pumping of 180 million litres of water per day was stopped from July 1, signalling trouble for Chennai, which has always faced water crisis during the hot summer months.
